Angler's Lodge On Pine Avenue

The Angler’s Lodge in Anna Maria has been moved to The Historic Green Village on Pine Avenue. The Lodge was donated to the Anna Maria Preservation Trust, to ensure that it was protected, and would become part of the legacy of the City of Anna Maria.

The Angler’s Lodge was built by Mr. and Mrs. Wood in 1913. The Woods named their Anna Maria Island home ‘Thelma by the Sea’ after their daughter, a beautiful young model who was on the very first Anna Maria Island brochure.

The move started Monday morning May 23^rd 2011, and was a big deal. Lizzie Vann Thrasher said moving the Angler’s Lodge to the village is a “major task, but we think it’s worth every effort to ensure that it remains part of Anna Maria’s future history.”

Rod and Reel pier restaurant – great food and views

The Rod and Reel restaurant is located in Anna Maria City, Anna Maria Island Florida. The restaurant sits out on the end of the most Northern Pier on Anna Maria Island. It is extremely quiet and the Rod & Reel is typically a top 3 foodie choice for visitors and locals alike. The great food, great views and reasonable prices make a must stop.

The restaurant is on the second floor and provides indoor and outdoor seating. In the high season it can get pretty busy and waiting an hour for a seat is fairly common place. The great thing about waiting is that you stop by the bar on the first floor, grab a beverage and sit on the pier people, fish, dolphin, bay and manatee watching. It is great to get the strong bay breeze coming to shore while you catch up with friends and family.

Time 2 buy on Anna Maria Island – More Reasons

It seems at least on Anna Maria Island, Florida activity has picked up in the last two weeks. The transaction volume the Island Real Estate professional sales staff has been generating seems like a flashback to the 2005 real estate days. This is no joke. With the exception of two days, the first 10 days of April a real estate professional with Island Real Estate of Anna Maria, Inc has put a property under contract. Yes, that is right. Almost every day in the month of April a sales professional with JUST Island Real Estate has been involved with a property going under contract. Granted the property has not closed but the amount of buyers on the island has increased to 2005 levels for the past few weeks.

Most other full time sales professionals on Anna Maria say the same thing. Busy, busy, busy…so, what are you waiting for? If you are on the sidelines, waiting for the bottom you may have already missed it. Interest rates are at all time lows, banks are approving financing, and sellers are more aware of market pricing.

ANNA MARIA, FLA – April 3, 2009 The Anna Maria Island Historical Society (AMIHS) will be presenting its fourth historic marker to The Island Playhouse in Anna Maria at 7 p.m. on April 13th, 2009.

The playhouse, a building of great historical Island importance and was originally the home of the William H. Gillett family of Parrish, Florida. The all-wood structure was first established as the Anna Maria Tourist Center. The center greeted visitors who came from Tampa and St. Petersburg on excursion boats.

In 1923, the City of Anna Maria, Florida incorporated. The city soon became a center of activity as all city business was conducted on Anna Maria. The now playhouse also served as a community hall and was used for social gatherings, club meetings, church services, a schoolroom and even included an Island community theater.

In the 1970s the playhouse faced major renovations. The stage was lifted, 137 seats were installed in seven tiered rows and the floors were carpeted. The ticket sales operation was able to move to the theater. The previous ticket office was from volunteer’s homes.

The 2009 season marks Island Players’ 60th anniversary. The season sums up with their last show in May when “Alone Together Again” by Lawrence Roman closes. The show takes place from May 14th to the 24th, 2009.

Worried about the loss of the historic structures to development, the Anna Maria Island Historical Society is recognizing the structures by presenting plaques to their owners. If you would like your structure recognized, you may apply in person to the Island Historical Museum and provide proof of the structure’s age. All applicable building must be at least 50 years of age. Once approved by the AMIHS board, your building will be added to the Florida Master Site File in Tallahassee and a plaque will be granted. The cost will be $125.

The Anna Maria Island Historical Society museum is located directly across from the Island Real Estate – Pine Avenue Restoration office. The museum provides fantastic historical information on Anna Maria Island. A must visit if vacationing on Anna Maria Island! Anna Maria Island Bayfest is fantastic Anna Maria City October Event

The Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce hosts a phenomenal event every October. The 2008 Bayfest was no exception. Both sides of Pine avenue were packed with fantastic vehicles from old to new. In addition, this year extreme motorcycles were included and no doubt even non-motorcyclist became enthusiasts after viewing the workmanship of the speciality bikes. As always lots of crafts for sale that are sure to jazz up any beach house on Anna Maria Island.

The Chamber offers wonderful live music throughout the day from 10AM – 10 PM. Beer, Wine, soda, water are all provided throughout the Bayfest which takes place on Pine Avenue in Anna Maria City, FL. Plenty of food is available from the Sandbar, Skinny’s, and other local Anna Maria restaurants. If you go away hungry its your own fault as deserts, burgers, pizza, seafood, and finger foods are plentiful at Bayfest. Once the sun goes down the Anna Maria City party begins until 10 PM. It’s a great friendly outdoor night festival that no one should miss if they frequently visit Anna Maria Island.

Grab a dinner at the Sandbar or ice cream at two scoops and walk Pine avenue window shopping in any of the ample boutique shops to be added in the next 3-5 years. The size of the project is mind blowing and will redefine the city of Anna Maria. The Pine Avenue Restoration project will provide an old neighborhood feel we all yearn for and an added destination for Anna Maria Island for visitors to enjoy. Led by Mike Coleman, Ed Chiles and listed by Island Real Estate, the project is sure to succeed and provide a ton of walk around boutique shops on Anna Maria Island similar to St. Armand’s circle but further along Anna Maria Island’s old Florida tradition.
