There has been some great strides made in educating the marketplace on Vacation rentals versus hotels.   Each one has its place for providing good accommodations.  If you are staying on business or as a couple for one – two days then a hotel is probably the best bet.  You don’t need a ton of space and just one bedroom works fairly well for short stays.

Staying for longer than a few nights with multiple people makes a hotel room no longer the best choice.  Taking out multiple hotel rooms which are small and just not built to support multiple folks is where a hotel room no longer makes sense.  What does make sense is renting a vacation rental condo, home or villa on Anna Maria Island.  A few large vacation rental home networks have begun to show the drawbacks to renting a hotel room for a vacation.  On Superbowl Sunday several advertisements will be shown and expect the “Griswold’s,” America’s vacation family to poke a little fun at hotels versus Vacation Rentals.  This is just one post of many and hopefully very soon after the official commercials I will be able to post the videos.

Four bedroom beach cottage just recently renovated is a perfect spot to sit back and relax. The four bedrooms can accommodate eight comfortably however two sleeper sofa’s as well as a air mattress gets the home up to fourteen! We probably would not suggest adults on an air mattress but children are tough and usually find it more fun.

The 4 bedroom Holmes Beach Vacation Rental is just a short stroll to the Gulf of Mexico. It is about 1.5 blocks to the beach. The private Anna Maria Island vacation rental also has a newly installed pool equipped with a heater for the rare cold evening as well as a swim up bar. That’s right, a swim up bar with bar bench to relax in the pool, the sun and sip your favorite beverage. The Extra large back yard makes it a perfect private oasis. I forgot to mention the barbecue grill perfect for a pool side picnic!

Just off the pool is the game room inside equipped with a Wii. The home has three Kings and a double-twin bunk bed. The kitchen has just been renovated as well and is a perfect spot to prepare the family favorite vacation meal. The living area creates a great room effect with the kitchen so the entire family can share in time out of the sun. The Florida Association of Realtors has published a follow up to rental scams. Although they focus their article more on longer term rentals I believe there needs to be caution used in regards to the seasonal rental market.

Slow for Rental Scams

The original article leads readers to believe that the scam is mostly occurring on the Gulf Coast however feedback after the original story hit “Early Bird” many Florida Real Estate professionals came forward with similar feedback. Below a few additional suggestions have been made that I think would be helpful to educate us all regarding on-going rental scams.

“Donna Fries, a Panama City Beach Realtor, says the scam operates in her area too. She says the fraudulent ad uses the real owner’s name or the Realtor’s name, but a contact method that goes only to the criminals.

She offers the following suggestions for detecting the scam:

• The Craigslist ad is a carbon copy of the original ad with correct spelling, good English and a photo. Follow-up email responses, however, usually have incorrect spelling and awkward English.

• Scammers offer rental prices up to 40 percent below actual value, making it an attractive deal. If potential renters see identical ads in different locations with different prices, the lower-priced one is probably a scam.

• Criminals ask for deposit and rent money to be sent by Western Union or another method that works like cash, and it usually can’t be tracked or refunded.

• Many times, they use a foreign phone calling card that cannot be traced.”
